PROJECT #2

CLIMATE SMART REGION

Interview Lorena Yaneth Arita:

«I belong to the coffee cooperative COCAFELOL and am also part of organisation women’s committee which oversees and leads gender actions. As a third-generation coffee farmer with a 17 acres farm, I am also a primary schoolteacher, housewife, and member of the board of trustees. Thanks to the training processes developed by HRNS and the Lavazza Foundation project, I have established my own diversification plot using a “5X1 system”, intercropping coffee and avocado; growing avocado will help me to diversify my income in the future. I have also established a family garden near to my home where I am growing vegetables and basic grains. Today I no longer need to buy produce at the market, instead I can sell the surplus from my garden to others in my community. I do this at a lower cost so I can help people in my community.
